Mauser Rifle Serial Number Lookup


In 1889, Fabrique Nationale (or FN) was founded by a group of Belgian investors for the purpose of manufacturing Mauser rifles for Belgian army. This was to be accomplished under the license from Mauser, with technical assistance of Ludwig Loewe of Berlin. 1896 Mauser quick identification For when you have it. But you don't know just what it is. There is a full auto or machine gun version, but those are rare in the United States, and must be registered as machine guns. 5 or 6 digit serial number on diagonal flat 50. To the left of the BNZ the serial number of 6371 is stamped, and the same number appears on the bolt lever and the safety switch. Also not sure what the scripted letter is, maybe a 'P'? The gun shoots 170 grain 8mm ammo just fine. Any thoughts or advice? All mauser serial numbers are four digit. When they reach 9999, they bump up the letter one step, and start over again. This makes it very difficult to figure out manufacturing date from the serial number. Year of manufacture should be somewhere on the gun.
